I wanted to write a quick note to say- you deserve your self love. You deserve your kindness and respect. When stress hits, or you’re feeling down, the quickest way back up is start with your foundation- start with self love. This is because when we’re stressed or depressed or just busy, the first thing we let go of is ourselves and this leads to greater burn out. We’re conditioned to give and to keep our obligations to others, what we aren’t told is that it is impossibly to keep giving to others without first giving to ourselves.
I know that I personally am able to give so much more- whether it’s in a classroom full of kids, at dinner with my friends, or out with my partner- when I’ve taken care of myself first. It doesn’t have to be a big deal, it could be a bath, or a few minutes reading a good book, or a quick meditation. Often times what makes me feel better is journaling for 20 minutes a day. These are the things that make me feel better and ready to give to the world. These are the things that enable me to fill my cup and share with others. Journaling might not be your thing and that’s fine. Find what works for you. The more you give the more you receive, but don’t leave yourself out of the equation.
Love yourself and you’ll be able to spread more love to others. I think we can all agree that more love is something the world desperately needs right now.
