119 God Doesn’t Make Mistakes, Interview with Rose Jewell

Rose Jewell grew up in New Mexico. Not wanted by her parents, Rose spent several years being raised by her grandmother. When her grandmother had a stroke, Rose and her grandmother returned to her parents’ home, where they lived in a shed out behind the house. Then, Rose began caring for her younger siblings. Over the years, Rose has taken in literally hundreds of foster children, following her calling. A special bonus: Rose Jewell is host Gillian Rodriguez’ grandmother.

Q & A

Why do you think self love is important?

You have to love yourself before you can love others. I really believe that. I really do.

What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love?

My parents. I will always say that, Gillian. It was my parents. I felt like a nonentity in that particular part of my life.

Who is one person who has changed your life for the better?

My grandma, because she didn’t give up. She would make do with whatever was there and be grateful for it.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

To be proud of myself and don’t ever let anybody pull me down.

What is a self care habit that you practice regularly?

I get up in the morning and get myself ready for the day.

Can you share a resource, an app or a tool that we can use to build our selfcare practice.

Don’t listen to all the negative voices around you. Know yourself, even if you have to get a book on positive thinking that can help you through that. You are special. You are here on this earth for a reason. God doesn’t make mistakes.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“To Thyself Be True.”

What book are you reading right now?

100 Things to Always Remember and One Thing to Never Forget, by Douglas Pagels.
