Q & A

Why do you believe that self love is important?

If you don’t have self love, if you can’t love yourself, how are you able to receive love? I found myself so unlovely, I wasn’t willing to accept love from someone else. . . everything stems from this mindset, and self love is a mindset.

What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love?

There’s an idea in psychology, “We are all the product of our parents being too good and not good enough.”

A lot of people struggle because they don’t want to go into the past. They don’t want to explore the blocks.

I wasn’t willing to love myself because I wasn’t perfect.

Who is one person who has changed your life for the better?

My husband. He’s my rock.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

I don’t know if it counts as advice received, but I am a book fiend. One of my childhood books was about your purpose, going out in the world to make it a more beautiful place. When people are down in the dumps, it is easy to think the world is this ugly, nasty, mean thing out to get them. If they cling to that idea of, “be the change you want to see in the world,” “make the world a more beautiful place,” “how can you help the world evolve upwards,” then that’s a very, more hopeful place to be.

What is a self care habit that you practice regularly?

Getting out into nature by myself. Breathing and letting shields go. Just being able to be out there with no context or pretext and just exist.

Do you have a favorite quote?

No. I’ve got about six different ones. “Love is the answer.” “Love thyself first.” Too many to pick one.

Can you share a resource, an app or a tool that we can use to build our selfcare practice.

There are some really good online yoga programs. If you can do yoga, which is a movement meditation, or download a meditation on your phone and go for a walk. Incorporating the mind, body, spirit, and energy altogether is wonderful for you.

What book are you reading right now?

The Original Swiss Family Robinson, and The Seven Spiritual Laws, by Depak Chopra.

What is the one thing that you are most passionate about?

Having people be the own advocate for their health, and understanding it is a four corner approach of mind, body, spirit, and energy.
