094 Positive and Negative Emotions, Interview with Douglas Neufeld
Doug is the first man featured on Just Stay Curious. He identifies a Christmas he spent alone 16 years ago. Waking up alone, he became determined to never be so alone on Christmas again. A few short months later, Doug gained his sobriety. Doug realized that he couldn’t do it alone. Doug also discusses his path to discovering the need to really feel his feelings, which, he says, are a package deal, and includes both positive and negative feelings.
Q & A
What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love?
Comparison, judgment, and fear. Oh, that’s three things. Part of it was discovering my purpose. I found that my strengths are there to support me in times of weaknesses, and my weaknesses are there to humble me in times of strength.
Who is one person who has changed your life for the better?
Athena Glass. She was a retired creative writing professor from a University. I did a job for her as a contractor. Somehow, she knew I was a writer. She really showed a complete interest in what I was writing and my message.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“Stay on my side of the street.” Meaning, I can’t control what anybody else does, says, or acts. But what I can control is me. I take ownership of all my actions, without blame.
What is a self care habit that you practice regularly?
Acceptance. Just to accept that I am human and I am going to make mistakes. Self love is a process. Taking time for me is the biggest thing. I need alone time.
What is the one thing that you are most passionate about?
Douglas P. Neufeld is an author. He has one project being published and another in the editing stages. Further, Douglas has started a new project on the subject of “how to build a nest in which a woman in her power can grow and feel free doing so.”
