Q & A
Why is self love important to you?
It’s everything. It’s vital. We can’t function without it. We have a responsibility to ourselves to take care of ourselves and look after ourselves.
What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love?
It was myself. I was the person holding myself back from self love. I didn’t like myself. That was me, being “Blinkered.” I couldn’t see any of my good qualities. I was holding myself back.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
My mum always used to say, “Never trust a man who says ‘trust me.’”
What is a self care habit that you practice regularly?
I make sure I get time to myself every week. I am absolutely fine saying “no” to doing things in order to recharge.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“You are not a problem to be fixed. As long as you are alive. . . you will still be learning.”
Can you share with us a resource or an app that we can use to help our own self care practice grow?
“Relax Melodies.” It’s a free app to help with sleep. It has a couple of guided meditations, it plays sound and music.
What book are you reading right now?
Jane Travis has been a counsellor/psychotherapist for almost 12 years. She also blogs about self care for people pleasers, looking at self care, self love, self acceptance and communication. She is a single mother of 2 boys (19 & 20) and a beautiful rescue dog.
