051 From Fire to Love, Interview with Clarissa Wilson
In this interview, Clarissa Wilson describes how an apartment fire changed her outlook on life. Based on this mind shift, Clarissa started making different choices. These choices led her to a job she loves and a business helping other women learn about and develop a relationship with money.
What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? The number one thing was that I did not know what self love was. I had to teach myself. It wasn’t an easy task for me to be able to learn it. But I did!
What steps did you take to find out what it is? I read a lot of blogs. I read a lot of books. And then, I also did a lot of meditation, . . . and I started really listening to the messages they were giving me.
Who is one person who has changed your life for the better? I honestly think this would be my manager for my current job. He’s the one that hired me. And, just showing that he had that belief in me that I could do this job and really excel at it has really helped me change my life for the better.
And can you think of a couple of ways this has manifested in your life? To get this job you had to take a test to even be considered for an interview. I heard something about taking the test, and I went and looked online. And the test was only available near me the next morning. So I went and took the test the next morning, scored an 85. And that was one of the highest test scores, for interviews. So I got three interviews right off the bat – within two weeks of taking the test and then I got the call for the job offer basically on my birthday. It was an awesome birthday present to get that job offer. And then, I just really hit it off with all the people I was working with, and it just catapulted me to really love what I do.
What is the best advice you have ever received? Just keep going.
What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? Getting at least 10,00 steps a day.
Do you have a favorite quote? “A woman should be two things: Who and what she wants.” Cocoa Channel.
Can you share with us a resource or an app that we can use to help our own self care practice grow? I use the Pomodoro technique whether it’s for your self care or other tasks that you have to do at home like housecleaning or even working on your own business, I set a timer for either 25 or 55 minutes, and I either go exercise, I do cleaning or I sit and work on my business for that amount and then I take a 15 minute break, come back and do it again. I do this three times before I take an hour long break. It has really changed my productivity level.
What book are you reading right now? Pre-Suasion, by Robert Cialdini
What is the one thing that you are most passionate about? Being able to help other women have a relationship with their money. . . The more that you love yourself, the more that you can take care of everything else, too.
